Lawani Sunday

Profile

Country: Nigeria

Style: Complementism, Fine Art, Impressionism, Abstract

Medium: Oil on Canvas

Fun Fact: he is now a lecturer at the same university where he horned his unique style

Quote:

My style, “ complementism” is generally seen as a technique but broadly different from the general style in painting because of its end product which entails the blending decoration of broad brush pattern and colour splash in order to give the main painting work a general surface felling. This style of mine, takes the actual and normal painting steeps and procedure but end differently.
The style is carried out in two forms; simple complementism in linear brush pattern and simple complementism in linear splashing.
The main content of the style in linear complementism is all about emotional relief, with the aim of reaffirming the emotional feelings of the art lovers for better

International Contemporary Artist Andrea ‘Adka’ Jones

When you think of New York City, certain memories or images come to mind, such as: the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Times Square, Broadway, and Stevie Wonder’s song, “Living for the City” from his 1973 album, Innervisions.

Well now you combine all of these thoughts into one name: Adka.

Andrea Jones is “Adka”.

By way of a brief biography: Andrea Jones was born in the town of Piestany, Slovakia. “Adka” is her childhood nickname. After a princess-like wedding at the 12th century Bojnice Castle, Slovakia, she moved to the United States in 1999. She currently resides in North Carolina, but one could not possibly move from their homeland, 5,000 miles away to begin a brand new life and not visit New York, New York; that legendary city that welcomes the huddled masses, the tired and the poor, from every part of the known world.

Sure enough, upon taking her first bite of the Big Apple, this delightful and charming Slovakian artist was inspired to restore and revitalize the cacophony of sights and sounds ever present, everywhere throughout New York City and present them again in a brand new light. Adka sees, hears, smells, and feels New York; that concrete urban jungle, that melting pot populated with a multiplicity of people from all over the United States and the rest of the world, that city that never sleeps. New York! Jay-Z and Alicia Keys sing about it! There’s Wall Street, Times Square, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Rockefeller Center and all the other sites and sounds that create NYC’s one-of-a-kind magical noise and energy! This is Adka’s inspiration. This is what touches her inner being and gives her an inner vision, which she then recreates in the form of modern art and gives back to us. Adka tailored the fanciful folk-art style she learned in her native country and captured the heart, soul and spirit of this internationally acclaimed U.S. city. In her own words: “I could paint New York City every day and never quite capture all it offers.  New York, New York!”

Adka is represented by Agora Gallery, a fine art gallery located in the heart of New York’s Chelsea art district.. Ms. Jones was featured in the May 2011 issue of ARTisSpectrum, an international art magazine; the May 2011 silver issue. Later that same year, in July, a detailed artist profile was published by Suite101.com. Her artwork will be showcased at the Annual International Art Exhibition - November 2011. This event will take place at the Estense Castle of Ferrara in Italy. Though she was at one time, an emerging contemporary artist, she is now respected as an International Contemporary Master. Andrea Jones was approved for the International Contemporary Masters Volume VI, World Wide Art Books and the publication will be out in December 2012.

So do you really love New York?

Then you will definitely fall in love with Adka’s Art.

Reading level: Ages 4 and up. An introduction to Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, etc. 4 years old is not too young to begin teaching a child how to appreciate art and encouraging him or her if they have the talent. This is a short book that teaches the styles, works, and techniques of the great masters and features many activities to nurture the child and guide them in creating their own masterpiece. Discovering Great Artists: Hands-On Art for Children in the Styles of the Great Masters (Bright Ideas for Learning)

Spotlight on a great artist that I discovered.  He isn’t inlcuded in the book suggsted above on great artists.  He hadn’t been born yet. :)

Alfred Alexander Gockel was born 1952 in Ludinghausen,Germany. He published his first work when he was only 8 years old. Mr.Gockel says of his work: “I like to touch the viewer’s soul with my vibrant colors.”

His art collection is subdivided into two major categories: unique artwork and graphics. Today he is one of the most prolific distributors of modern art posters, with customers in 50 countries.

Gockel, was commissioned by the U.S. Olympic committee to create an official piece of artwork for the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy, which is titled “USOC Olympic Celebration”.

Gockel’s unique style – boldly colored abstract images lined in thick black against a white canvas – has become his signature.  He was named 2011 Official Artist of Top 10 Jazz Festival and his jazz artwork is super cool.  But personally, I fancy his floral prints.

To describe the man’s art is one word?
